We finally have it complete…in the final hours. To tell you the truth, we were just waiting on our glider to arrive….which took almost 7 weeks. But, I’m so glad we have it now, because it was worth the wait.
Anyway, let’s start the tour!
First, off, I have to point out the AMAZING handmade mobile that my family helped me make. Here’s a how-to on it, if you want to recreate it for your room!
Okay, back to the tour.
It’s a relatively small room: all a baby really needs! We went with a gender-neutral theme of ‘You are my sunshine…when clouds are grey’, painting the walls a light grey color.
We purchased the Monte Luca glider in black (best decision ever because we were going to do it in white, but the delivery guy’s hands were BLACK with dust, as was the box, and I would have already had to clean it off).
We did get the all white accent pillow too. It took us QUITE a while to decide on a glider, and that’s why we waited until the last minute to purchase one. We knew we wanted a modern design, so that we could use it in other rooms after there was no more nursery. Driving 2 hours away to actually be able to sit in this beauty, is what drove us to purchasing it. I refuse to pay that much money for a chair without sitting in it first.
Even though it’s the most expensive piece of furniture we’ve ever bought, I think it will last a long time.
My very talented mother-in-law did all of the sewing for the room (and the rest of our house). How’s that for custom? She did foam bumpers for the crib and curtains for the window. I love it…when can this be my room?
We purchased the crib and dresser/changing table from Ikea. The crib is the Sundvick crib in white, which we ended up purchasing after Brooke said she loved hers so much for their twins! The dresser/changing table is the Nyvoll in medium/brown and white…which we promptly painted black.
Leland’s new favorite spot is the ottoman, just in case you were wondering.
I also ended up commissioning this beautiful work of art from my brother-in-law’s girlfriend, Chelsea, to give to my husband for his birthday/our baby shower. It has the lyrics of ‘You are my sunshine’ media arted into it!
And we officially stuffed both the dresser and closet full of baby gear. It is probably the most organized it will ever be, but I think we’re ready!

It is gorgeous!
So cute! I am in love with the sleek glider. Definitely something I would want to have as well!
This is gorgeous!! Even though you don’t know the gender, you did an amazing job keeping it gender neutral!! Love it!
looks wonderful, caroline!
This looks perfect!! I think the baby-to-be will spend many happy hours here. And I love the color scheme–very soothing.
Love it! What a great idea, and I am jealous of your mom-n-laws sewing abilities!
Oh, I love the whole room! I especially love the art work though. I sing that song to my little girl all the time and hearing her sing it back to me is the sweetest thing on the planet!
Absolutely beautiful!
I love the idea of the grey walls and ‘You are my Sunshine’! How sweet!
Love your nursery!!! (Esp the colors!)
And the “You Are My Sunshine” canvas!
Wow! What an inspiring nursery! That is the nicest glider I have ever seen! Thank you for sharing!
Aww, it’s so pretty! I love the colors. I’d love to have my place look like that. The glider’s great and it was clever of you to get something you can use in the future.
Very nice job!
Just BEAUTIFUL Caroline! What a lucky baby that gets to sleep in there! I think my favorite part (which is hard to choose) is the painting!
Love the wall paint color! Do you remember what color it is??
Thanks Christina! It’s a Valspar eggshell Urban Sunrise.
What a darling nursery! The curtains are so sweet! I have to ask – are you still loving the Luca glider after having a chance to use it? I’m considering splurging on one, but I want to make sure it is comfy and durable.
Well, the Luca is definitely durable and comfortable. I will say, after sitting in some of the traditional-style gliders in the store, the luca isn’t as comfortable. The back pillow is very nice if you want to slouch down and close your eyes. I have considered buying one of those airplane neck pillows that wrap around your head to wear when I want to fall asleep, but I never have.
In our case, I decided that the modern style and reusability of the luca was more important that maximum comfort. It’s such a beautiful chair, that after we are finished with it in the nursery, we’re going to move it to our living room for maximum usage. The nice thing is that it’s wide enough to fit me and have a space on the side for our little dog to snuggle up on it too. We were going to get the white chair, but I’m SO glad we got the black instead. It shows ZERO mess.
If I had to do it again, I would still buy this chair. I don’t know if I would buy the ottoman again, but I’m sure I’ll use it more when we start to read to Liam in the chair, instead of just using it to breastfeed and rock him to sleep.
I hope that helps, good luck and I’m assuming congratulations are in order?!?
Thanks so much Caroline! This is very helpful! (And thank you for the congrats – due June 6th!)
Hi,
The room looks great. Just curious…how was the Nyvoll dresser to put together? Any trouble? I’ve read mixed reviews, mostly having to do with the pain of putting it together.
Thanks.
Hey Chad, The Nyvoll was a bit challenging to put together, but it’s about as challenging as all of the other Ikea furniture we’ve had was to put together.
It’s hard when there’s no word directions! ‘Put the swirly thing in the hole’ -my interpretation of the instructions.
Now that it’s put together, we love it. We ended up painting it, but didn’t strip the fake wood finish on it before hand. Mistake. Once we are finished using it as a changing table, we’re going to strip it and repaint. Nothing like a little Ikea Hacking!
Best of luck to you!
