Since I eat what seems like a billion small meals a day now, I’ve been craving a lot of snack like foods.
It’s easier for me to portion out the small meals, if I think of them more like snacks, than meals.
Cravings got the best of me and I was buying tubs and tubs of the Archer Farms Monster mix from Target. It was getting a little pricey at the rate I was eating it (and having help from my husband).
I would also get to the bottom of the tub and be left with a lot of peanuts and raisins…oops, I like the m&m’s! 😉
So, I decided to make my own monster mix, customized to what my body needs and craves right now.
almonds – vitamin E, fiber, monounsaturated fat, protein
cashews – monounsaturated fat, protein
walnuts – omega 3 fatty acids, protein, fiber
peanuts – protein, fiber, monounsaturated fat
It’s full of nuts, with a hint of sweet from the chocolate candies and yogurt covered raisins. I went all organic and unsalted (except for the peanuts), since I’m in an organic state of mind with the pregnancy. 😀
Monster Mix
Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted walnut pieces
- 1 cup unsalted almonds
- 1 cup unsalted cashews
- 1 cup salted peanuts
- 1 cup yogurt covered raisins or dried cranberries
- 1 cup chocolate candies (a.k.a. m&m’s)
How-To
- Mix all together.
- Store in an airtight container and enjoy as a snack!
Looks great! Whenever my kids have yogurt covered raisins…I steal a few. I’m such a bad teacher!
I need a whole lotta this in my belly!
Yum!! My boyfriend and I are *obsessed* with the Target monster mix…except we wind up competing for the M&Ms and peanut butter chips and then, predictably, wind up with all the healthy (er…healthier) stuff leftover at the bottom of every bag. Sigh!
I love those Sunspire chocolate candies. I used to get the peanut filled ones all the time but now I ca’t find them anymore; back to M&Ms.
mmmm….nutty, chocolaty and crunch! I would easily bag some of this up and take it on a hike with me!
great idea! I never think to make my own snack mix!
Well this is perfect for me. I was just thinking this morning that I need to mix myself up some kind of trail mix or something. I’m 32 weeks and cannot stop snacking! At least I should make it something healthy! I love the idea of yogurt covered raisins, those are SO good 😀
Ha, ha-You eat your trail mix, just like my kids 🙂 Your mix sounds delicious and congratulations on your pregnancy-all good memories for me-except for the heartburn!
Haha…yep…guilty. 😀 And thank you! Pregnant life has been treating me well since week 17. Thank goodness! 😀
I would love to win some turtles. It might even give me some brownie points with my sweetie.
