Sweet Potato Shepard’s Pie {McCormick Giveaway}

Fall is coming this month!

I know the East coast is just now getting hurricanes and it’s still ‘hotter than the dickens’ outside, but I’m totally stoked, stocked, and ready for fall. Bring on the pumpkin!

As I’ve talked about before, I didn’t eat red meat before I had Liam. That was, until I had shepard’s pie. I made an exception and it tasted delicious. While I was pregnant, I started eating red meat more regularly. Don’t ask me why, I guess the lure of bacon and hamburgers just got to me. Since then, I’ve continued to occasionally eat red meat.

As such, I decided it was prime time to make shepard’s pie myself, this time, making it taste like fall. With the help of McCormick’s new gourmet spice line, I turned this traditional meal into something really special. Making my family wondering what in the world made this dish taste so good! Just ask my husband.

Speaking of my husband, thank you for putting this gif together for me! 😀

How cool is that?

Anyway.

I elevated my everyday meal and to celebrate Liam going down for a rare nap during dinnertime, Logan and I had fun playing a game of Table Topics “Not Your Mom’s Dinner Party” Game. So fun! I found out things that I never knew about him, even after being with him for 9 years!

And there’s good news, folks. You can win this game, spices, and more if you just keep scrolling down!

Yipe!

Sorry, way too enthusiastic about giveaways and fall. I just can’t control myself!

How-To

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.

  4. Warm the frozen vegetables in a pot on low heat until thawed. Mix in 1 tablespoon of McCormick spice. Set aside.
  5. In two Au Gratin pans (or two individual-sized casserole dishes), spread the ground beef on the bottom of the pans. Then, Spread the vegetable mixture. Finally spread the mashed sweet potatoes on the top. Sprinkle with the cheese.

  1. Love sweet potatoes in Shephard’s pie! Also love the fancy gif your hubby made! My favorite Fall food is pumpkin- especially in oatmeal!

  2. Apple cider doughnuts, roasted corn, pumpkin baked goods (except pie – hate pumpkin pie :-)), cranberry sauce..those make me think of Fall.

  3. During the time I lived in upstate New York, I looked forward to the fall for the fresh apple cider donuts. They were warm, cinnamony, apple cidery and just scrumptious. I misss them terrribly! Now I still look forward to pumpkins and soups but ahhh those donuts!

  4. Hi to my favorite former roomie!

You had me at Sweet Potato, by the way. This is going on my “make immediately or sooner” list! 🙂

In addition to sweet potatoes, I’m looking forward to anything & everything pumpkin, making my Mom’s cranberry-cherry relish at Thanksgiving, and baked acorn squash (an amazing excuse to use freshly ground cloves and freshly grated nutmeg… Mmmmm!).

I’m thinking cornbread and veggie chili are a must, as soon as it cools off a little more. (Do you have a good veggie chili recipe? I’m on the hunt.)

  5. I LOVE fall, and am most looking forward to pumpkin bread and apple cider! Also, that sweet potato shepard’s pie looks delicious! I’ve never thought of using sweet potatoes. Can’t wait to try it!

  6. All year long I look forward to the taste of apple cider. Hot, cold, mulled, plain, anything. I just want it and I want lots!

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  7. Hm… sweet potatoes, and all those lovely root veggies like turnips and parsnips (although those are more of a winter thing…) are for sure the best!

  8. I can’t really think of any specific food that I am looking forward. My kids love apple cider so maybe that. I do love Halloween. That is one part of Fall that I enjoy.

  9. Sweet potato shepard’s pie sounds amazing! I’ll definitely be trying that soon. I think my favourite autumnal food is pumpkin pie – I had it once when I was a kid and after many years of craving it, I finally tried my hand at baking one last year – it turned out pretty well for a first attempt and I can’t wait to make another this year!

  10. What a great combination of favorites! Thanks for another great recipe and giveaway! Looking forward to pumpkin recipes … especially pie!

  11. I love making pies for Thanksgiving. It’s so hard to pick just one, so I usually end up making 4 or 5! Ridiculous!

  12. I am looking forward to hot Russian Tea in the fall! And I like you on facebook and follow you on twitter too!

  13. This looks SO GOOD. I’m going to make it for dinner this week! I also love Anthropologie, so I’m entering the giveaway thingy-do.

  14. I – love – fall! This is such a cool recipe, I love both sweet potatoes & shepard’s pie, what a great combo! I’m one of those weirdos that does not like the #1 most popular fall ingredient, pumpkin… so I’m looking forward to sweet potatoes 🙂

  15. My families favorite is the pumpkin roll I make every Thanksgiving. Will definitley be trying this Sheppards Pie recipe. I, too, love pumpkin everything!

  16. This Fall I’m looking forward to making a big pot of chili! Add in a good movie and some pleasant company and you have my ideal Fall evening fun.

  17. We have to choose just one? Man! I’d definitely say my favorite right now is chili and hearty stews. Especially since I almost never cook them during the heat of summer, but can slow-cook them over a woodstove during the winter….Mmmm….

  18. I love soup, mostly chicken noodle with dumplings. But then I saw your Sweet Potato soup recipe on Blissfully Domestic and well…no chicken noodle for me! 🙂

  19. LOVE your site. You have such amazing photography skills that bring all your recipes to “life”. I love the traditional shephards pie, but am looking forward to making your “sweet potato” version. I love everything about fall…………..but I guess my favorite to look forward to is pumpkin spice latte’s and some home made scones. Just about any flavor – love fruits and nuts mixed in too!! Thanks for the wonderful recipes!!

  20. I just found you! Hope I am in time to enter the giveaway….love the sweet potato on shepherds pie idea, I will be making this for sure:)
