Whole Wheat Chocolate Banana Waffles

Whole Wheat Chocolate Banana Waffles | chocolateandcarrots.com

In all my few years as a self-taught baker/cook, I’ve never made chocolate waffles…or pancakes for that matter. I guess in my brain, you already have syrup on the pastry, why add more sweets?

Yeah, stupid question.

The beauty about these waffles is the waffles themselves are just ever so slightly sweet from the banana and little bit of honey. You’re not over powered by sugar when you then add syrup on top. It’s just the right amount of sweet and chocolate.

Whole Wheat Chocolate Banana Waffles | chocolateandcarrots.comWho doesn’t enjoy that they’re 100% whole wheat!? There’s no way to tell either. All you see is chocolate! 😀

And this is just one of the few great recipes that I’ve tried from Nicole’s new cookbook. I had the pleasure of meeting and actually rooming with Nicole at BlogHer Food in Austin this year!

  1. I love any excuse to eat chocolate for breakfast! Even better that these waffles are healthy 🙂 My favorite indulgent breakfast food is cinnamon rolls, but for everyday I like oatmeal.

  2. Hey girl! Thank you sooooo much for hosting a giveaway of my cookbook! The waffles look amazing and I’m so glad to have met you 🙂 You’re a sweetheart and I hope to see you VERY soon!!! More late night girl talk 😉 xo!

  3. I love waffles for breakfast, but I usually end up eating oatmeal with chopped walnuts and fresh berries and a nice cup of coffee!

  4. Chocolate and bananas are a match made in heaven. Even more so when you through peanut butter in the mix. Waffles are one of my favorite breakfast meals when I am at home, but while I am at school oatmeal is my go-to meal. You bet chocolate and bananas are in my regular schedule though!

  5. Natural Peanut butter and some multigrain cobs bread, add in a banana and sprinkle of cinnamon. Nutritious and suuuper delicious

  6. Well, it used to be a lightly scrambled egg on a pita with spinach, but it may just have changed to a chocolate banana waffle 🙂 I discovered your website via Prevention RD and this giveaway so it is win win all round. Thanks you.

  7. My favorite breakfast food is homemade soy yogurt (unsweetened!) with seasonal fruit (right now: figs, berries, mango, white nectarine), but my hubby loves waffles!

    1. I think it would work just fine. Waffles are pretty forgiving and the banana will also assist in substituting the eggs for chia eggs. 😀 Happy Waffle Making!
