    1. Thanks Katie! I’m glad you like it! Any suggestions on how to improve it would be greatly appreciated. πŸ™‚

      1. Hey Caroline! You & I met @ the Tech After Five thing a few weeks ago. Desperately looking for a Web Developer. Was wondering if you might know someone. Hope to hear back. Thanks, Tara

    1. You have to go to Gravatar, sign up and upload a photo that you want to be paired with your email address every time you comment on a blog. πŸ™‚ Let me know if you have any questions.

  1. This is Spongebob back from the grave to help you write your blog! I suggest coating hamster pellets with peanut butter and apricot jam, delish!

    PS: George rocks!

  2. I love your website!
I don’t even like to cook, but I love to read cookbooks and this is even better!!!
Your grandmother, Sandra, used to be my babysitter in Cola.
I used to babysit your mother. πŸ™‚
I, too, went to The College of Charleston and ran into your mother there, before children.
I was in grad school living in the dorm and she was in undergrad, one summer.
    Your pictures are absolutely beautiful!
Talked to Sandra for over an hour tonight playing catch-up!
Will tell all my friends about your website-they like to cook!
You look beautiful! All grown up!

  3. I love your about me page! such a cool lay out! My family goes to Hilton Head Island every year too! We had to sell the house we owned a timeshare in but now my grandparents own a one week share in a condo for the week of Christmas. I also just went to HHI last weekend to run a half marathon! I love that place!

    1. Awesome! I love love love Hilton Head Island. I thought about all the runners at the half marathon last weekend. It was the perfect day for it! I’m loving these spring temperatures! I hope you had a great run! πŸ™‚ Yeah, my grandparents own a house there too (with another family)…that’s how I get to go. Otherwise, I couldn’t afford to go that often. Thank goodness for loving grandparents! πŸ˜€ And thank you for your nice comments Jeni! πŸ˜€

  4. So glad I stumbled across your blog! Your food posts look so yummy! I definitely always get a happiness high when people love my food too!

I also want that bathtub. :o)

  5. Hello Caroline, I am from Montreal, Canada. I just came across your site through a friend on Facebook who posted a link to the Nutella SouflΓ©e recipe. ALL the recipes look delicious and I look forward to trying them.

I like the simplicity of the website layout, and the colours are soothing on the eyes. No distracting, annoying ads or banners.

Also I think you should know that you have perfect teeth!

    Take care

    1. Haha..thank you Leonardo! So sweet of you. Thanks for stopping by! I hope you’ll come back soon! πŸ˜€

  6. Caroline,
Becca sent me a link to your wonderful site. I love the pictures and can’t wait to try some recipes. Becca said the whole wheat pancakes are terrific. This summer when peaches are sweet and juicy, I will send you my peach jam recipe. It is a very easy recipe, and you don’t even have to peel the peaches.

  7. I literally found you at random while posting on This Week For Dinner to try and win the pan. The name Chocolate & Carrots caught my attention, so I popped in to look around. I love your recipes!!! Ü Your photography is excellent as well! I’ve added you to my favorites list so I can follow you. I’d also like you (when you have time) to check out my daughter-in-law’s blog. The Shine Project is something she started very recently, and it is a pretty amazing story that grows daily! http://ashlemieux.blogspot.com/ I think it will give you some additional inspiration! Take care, and keep up the good work!!! Ü

  8. I have an idea for you! Shortbread! I am looking for a shortbread recipe online and can not find a good one. You should make one!

  9. Best About Me Page I have read! You inspired me to work on my sad little page. My brother in law graduated from the College of Charleston a few years ago. An absolutely beautiful campus!

  10. What a fantastic page!! And I’m with you on that bathtub. I need to be inspired to not leave dishes in the sink overnight…. I will think of you next time I think of just heading up to bed!

  11. I am so glad I stumbled onto your site! I just love being here! Everything is so clean and pretty! Your pictures are beautiful! I was wondering if you plan to add a “photography” tab. I’d love to read any suggestions you might have for getting better shots. I saw your lemon-blueberry scone re-post and seeing your “before” pics as compared to your “now” pics reminds me of where I currently am as a photographer and where I’d like to be! Any suggestions you might have would be greatly appreciated!

  12. Hi.
    Nice to meet you.
Love your warm friendly and thoroughly enjoyable site.
Especially appreciated the food value breakdowns, calories, carbs, fiber, protein,
so useful for health and fitness!
    Thank you.

  13. I just realized something… Every time I read your blog and look at the recipes and photos, it makes me HAPPY!!! And for that, I thank you…! Ü

  14. Is there an easy way to get my photo to appear next to my name when I comment? I’m the step just before “newbie” when it comes to blogs and blogging, and I’m trying to figure it out. Any recommendations on what I could read about blogging would be helpful too. What’s your opinion on WordPress vs. Blogger? Thanks in advance!!! Ü

    1. If you go to gravatar.com you can upload a photo that will associate with multiple email addresses. πŸ™‚ Easy-peasy! And don’t worry, I’m not too far ahead of you in the blogosphere…I’m learning something new every day! πŸ˜€

I spent some time in Barnes and Noble reading the Blogging for Dummies books. They helped a little bit, but they are more directed for blogging for a company. Don’t tell anyone, but I’m in the process of writing a book about blogging…specifically food blogging. πŸ˜‰ So, hopefully when I get it published someday, and I hope it’ll be helpful! πŸ˜€

As for WordPress vs. Blogger, I have a wordpress.org blog…it allows me…scratch that…my husband to customize everything (he’s the computer wiz)…and the good thing is that you can have a domain name that is entirely your own…instead of something like “chocolateandcarrots.blogspot.com”. You do have to buy a domain name and buy server and database space (I use 1&1.com). But, if you’re looking to quickly get yourself set up, I would suggest Blogger….it’s very basic and you can get set up in an afternoon. πŸ™‚

Good luck with everything! πŸ˜€ Exciting! Let me know when you start a blog of your own…I’d love to be one of your first readers! πŸ˜€

      1. Thank you so much! I’ve reserved the name in Blogger and I also did it in WordPress. I’ll check out buying the domain name like you suggested. This is one of those things that a person just has to get around to doing. And, believe me when I say you will be one of the first to know when the blog has gone live, because you will be referenced and linked on a regular basis! Ü

      2. Hi Caroline! This information is very helpful! Just two days ago I set up my first blog on blogger. It took me all day to figure it out and set it up! I absolutely love your blog site, it’s an eye grabber and I happen to “Stubble Upon” it! πŸ˜‰ I’d like to try and brighten mine up a bit! Would you say that WordPress is more complicated to run and keep up? If you get a moment check out my blog at: http://www.foodwithmuscle.blogspot.com, I would love your opinion. =) ~Rebecca

        1. Hey Rebecca! Thank you so much for contacting me! πŸ™‚ Glad to hear from ya! As for your question: compared to Blogger, WordPress is a tad more complicated. I luckily have my husband (who is a computer guru) to help me with the technological details. I am using WordPress.org and self hosting on 1and1.com. I have to back up my website pretty regularly (which took me a while to learn how to do). But, as for the design of creating a post it is super simple. I love the layout. πŸ™‚ Let me know if I can help answer any more of your questions! Welcome to the blogosphere! πŸ™‚

  15. i just came across your blog and love it so far. I can’t wait to poke around a bit more. I just noticed you’re reading Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet right now, me too!

If you don’t mind me asking…who designed your blog? I’m planning a blog makeover soon and have been looking for someone to help with that.

    1. Aww, thanks Kate! πŸ™‚ I loved Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet. Such a sweet book. As for the blog design, my husband and I came up with it and he executed it all. πŸ™‚ Good luck finding someone…and let me know if you find anyone really good…I’m looking to do a remodel as well! πŸ™‚

  16. I just found your blog and totally love it! You have so many delicious looking recipes I can’t wait to try out and my all time favorite band is Relient K! <3

  17. Hello Caroline! I love your blog is the perfect combination (food and amazing pictures) I have so much fun every time I read it. ! I don’t know how many visits do you have from other countries but here’s a Venezuelan girl (you should see some pictures of Venezuela I sure youΒ΄ll love it) :). Best wishes for you and your family!

  18. It’s great to meet a local Carolina girl. Love your blog, but I just realized from your post today that you’re in SC… was born and raised in Charleston, and live here with my husband. Thanks for all the great recipes!

  19. Hi Caroline! I LOVE your blog and your amazing recipes (I’ve tried a few and love them). I am a new blogger working on my photog skills and was wondering where you take your photos and get all that wonderful light, or do you use a light kit? I would really appreciate any help! Happy eating!

    1. Hey Sara! Thank you so much, you are too sweet! πŸ™‚ As for photography, I take all of my photos in natural light any where from 11am-2pm in the shade. I haven’t had much success with a light kit, but I’m in the process of building one with my husband for night time shoots. I wish you the best of luck with your photography! Keep practicing and it’ll bet better…I promise! πŸ™‚ Happy baking!

  20. Hi! I just came across your blog from pinterest. I love it! Your dog is the cutest! Look forward to seeing future pregnancy posts too:) All your photos r so clear and crisp? I was curious what type of camera you use? Thanks!
    Tassie

  21. Love this about page! Very creative. I love your book choices. I read The Help, Eat Pray Love, and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society and loved all three. I am reading (well listening to) Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet. Going to check out more of your blog now…

  22. I found your blog through Baking With Basil’s latest post (about her babies being born. Yay!) I thought, “Chocolate and Carrots–interesting. I’ll go check it out.” I wanted to say that from what I’ve seen so far, your blog is great, your recipes sound delicious, and your photography is beautiful! And congrats on your little-one-to-be. I love your name choices. πŸ™‚ My middle child’s name is Aidan.

    1. Aww, you’re so sweet Lydia! I don’t have one, but I can certainly make one. That’s a great idea! πŸ˜€

  23. Congratulations on the upcoming arrival! I haven’t been to your site in quite some time and didn’t know you two are expecting! So exciting:)

  24. Hi! I just found your Web site that caught my attention – because I’m a chocoholic (only dark chocolates for this girl! *smile*), and I’ve always loved carrots since I was a baby. Although, I’m not crazy about carrot cake, I don’t know why. Not to mention, we own 2 SAAB’s (a 9-5 and a 9-3). SAAB rocks! As I was reading your blog, I came across about the SAAB contest and I hope Logan won. Because that would’ve been so awesome to go to Sweden! We’ve been planning to drive to Trollhattan to visit the SAAB museum… one of these days.

On to reading more of your blog. Keep up the fun site and wonderful recipes!

    1. We certainly have a lot of similarities! πŸ˜€ We’re definitely a SAAB family. Unfortunately, Logan didn’t win the contest, but he has been to the museum in Trollhattan! He loved it! Thank you for visiting and for your sweet comment, Rita! πŸ˜€

    1. Thank you SO much for letting me know Kat. That worries me too. I’m not quite sure what to do about it, but I’ll try and contact the author. Thanks again!

  25. Do you ever give food photography workshops? I found a link to one you did back in May and was curious if have any others planned or if you offer lessons?

    1. You’re correct, Karen! I did a photography class in May here in Columbia, SC. Are you local? We’ve talked about doing another one, but only if there’s interest again. I’ve never taught one-on-one classes, but I’d be happy to look into that too! πŸ˜€ If you’d like to talk more, email me at caroline@34.224.50.190

  26. I LOVE your site!! It is amazing. I can’t wait to read more. I was curious if you would be interested in being featured on my blog. I would ask you a handful of questions and then write a full post on you. I have done it with other bloggers and my readers really enjoy reading. Let me know if you would be interested. You can check out my blog at LittleBlueDress4Change.blogspot.com or you can email me at LittleBlueDress4Change@gmail.com!! Can’t wait to hear from you!

    Stay healthy & happy,

  27. I just stumbled across your blog randomly tonight. After finding out that we both have Comp Sci degrees, plus the fact that we both love Relient K and Gilmore Girls… I feel like kindred spirits.
I look forward to following your blog! =)

  28. Enjoyed my visit to your blog. Nice “About” page. We share similar likes in books. Have you read “The Irresistable
Blueberry Bakeshop and Cafe” ? Cute story, takes place in Maine.

    Regards,
    The Souper

    1. Thanks for stopping by! I haven’t read that book, but I’ll have to look into it! Thanks for the recommendation! πŸ˜€

  29. Caroline, I got your surprise package today and LOVED it. You were fast….. We will greatly enjoy them and I will write about it on my blog. Thank you, Happy Holidays and I hope you will enjoy your packages as well….

    Tal at Balicravings.wordpress.com

    1. Hey Tal, I’m so glad you received them! I forgot to add in the note that if you pop a cookie in the microwave for a few seconds it makes it amazingly melty and delicious! πŸ˜€ I hope you enjoy them! Warmly, Caroline

  30. Just had to come over and say hi to you!!! I’m from SC too ( Greenville area to be exact!) I always love finding a local blogger with so much passion for food as myself. It’s rare to meet many in SC these days:) You’ve got a great website and I just subscribed to your blog!:) Look forward to keeping up with you!:)

    1. Hi Heather! It is so rare to meet food bloggers in SC! I love Greenville. Such a beautiful city. If you’re ever in Charleston, let me know and we’ll have to meet up! πŸ˜€

  31. Hi Caroline,

I also attended the College of Charleston and am a South Carolina girl. Just stumbled onto your blog Crackers and Carrots. My son turns one next weekend and I am going to make your healthy first birthday cake. Thanks for so many great recipes.

    1. How fun! Happy Birthday to your son and congratulations on making it through the first year, mama! πŸ˜€ Enjoy this beautiful SC weather!

    1. Hi Amber! I’m so glad you found me! Yay, for Charleston bloggers! I feel like there aren’t too many of us out here. πŸ™‚

  32. Ah! I just stopped here to look at the coconut flour cookies and read your “about” section. I just read ‘The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society’ this summer and really enjoyed it. So funny to see it here. – heather – PA mom of 4 girls (3-10)

  33. My daughter is going to start University for Wildlife and Fisheries Biology. For her birthday I made her your chocolate raspberry cake with chocolate trees. I cut out wild images of real animals (bear, moose, wolf, cougar, rabbit, owl) and put them on top of the cake in the chocolate forest.. with a little sign that said ‘may all of your wildlife dreams come true’ (kind of a play on words). It was so cute ( she’s 22 but still loves a fantastic birthday cake) and the cake was AMAZING! Thanks for the recipe. Leslie – Edmonton, AB Canada
